30th Anniversary of the EBHA
The 30th Anniversary of the EBHA was celebrated at the annual congress of 2024, which was held at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa, and the Nova School of Business and Economics (Carcavelos). Nearly 200 papers were presented across 50 sessions, 2 roundtables, and 2 workshops. Thanks to the EBHA sponsorship and the dedicated efforts of the local organizing team to secure additional funding, 31 early-career students were able to benefit from travel grants or fee waivers. The EBHA Council is deeply grateful for the excellent work done by our colleagues, particularly the presidents of the local organization, Álvaro Ferreira and Pedro Neves.
The congress was inaugurated with the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the EBHA. Teresa Da Silva and Eric Godelier coordinated a roundtable in which various members who led the early days of EBHA participated either in person or virtually to share their perspectives on the evolution of the discipline and the association's contribution to it. During the congress, in addition, pictures sent by members were displayed, capturing quite a few nice, shared moments throughout these thirty years of scientific dialogue and friendship. Thanks to the committee in charge of organizing the EBHA 30th anniversary events: Teresa da Silva Lopes (president), Bram Bouwens, Alvaro Ferreira da Silva, Eric Godelier, Gelina Harlaftis, Maiju Wuokko, and Adoración Álvaro-Moya.
At the Gala Dinner, the Best Paper Prize was awarded to Marianna Astore (University of Turin and University of Oxford) and Paolo Di Martino (University of Turin) for their paper titled"Branching vs. Correspondents in ‘Cross-Border’ Banking Expansion? Evidence from Italy, 1880s–1936." The EBHA Dissertation Prize was awarded to Tine Petersen Malonæs, currently at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, for her dissertation, "Creating Room for Innovation: A Business History Study of Innovation in the Kongsberg Group, 2000–2015," which she defended on August 22, 2023, at BI Norwegian Business School. Our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners!
